How much does GEO or AI search optimization cost?

There is no single price for GEO (generative engine optimization), and no published rate card to compare against. The cost depends on how many services, areas and customer questions you want to be named for, how well your website already explains what you do, how much has to be written and checked, how many assistants are read each month, and whether leads from AI answers are tracked as their own channel. Agencies usually charge a monthly fee, a one-off fee for the starting picture, or a mix.

What decides the cost

  • Scope: being named for one service in one town is a smaller job than for ten services across a state.
  • The starting point: a website that already says plainly what you do, where and for whom needs less work than one that does not.
  • Writing: the questions customers ask have to be answered in full, from real jobs, and checked.
  • Corrections: a wrong area, an old name or a mix-up with a similar business takes time to put right at its source.
  • The monthly read: how many assistants are asked, how many questions, and whether every answer is kept in full.
  • Measurement: recording inquiries that arrive from AI answers as their own channel is work too.

How agencies usually charge

The shapes are the same ones the related answer on how much SEO costs describes, and many agencies sell the two together.

  • A monthly fee for ongoing work, often with a minimum term.
  • A one-off fee for the starting picture: what the assistants say about you today, with the errors and the competitors named. The related answer on what a GEO audit should include says what that report has to hand over.
  • A mix: the starting picture first, then a smaller monthly fee.
  • Results-based terms, where part of the fee depends on inquiries from AI answers. These only work when every lead is tagged with its source, so both sides can see what counts.

What you should not be paying for

A place inside the answer itself. Google says "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode", and the related answer on whether you can pay to show up in AI answers covers why no one can sell a spot in the written answer: ads beside an AI answer are real, labeled and bought through the ordinary ad account, and the answer is written separately.

A promise. No one controls what an AI model says, so a quote that promises a recommendation, or a date by which you will be named, is a reason to walk away. The related answer on how long it takes to show up in AI answers explains why months, not weeks, is the usual pattern.

Fake reviews, fake articles or fake accounts of any kind, however they are labeled on the quote.

Questions that tell you whether a quote is fair

  • Which assistants will you read each month, with which questions, and will I see every answer in full?
  • How will inquiries from AI answers be recorded, and how will I tell them from search?
  • What will you change on my website, and will I see it first?
  • What is included each month, what is extra, and how long is the minimum term?
  • Who owns the website, the content and the lead data, during the work and after it ends?

Before you spend anything

GEO pays off sooner for some businesses than others. The related answer on whether GEO is worth it for a small business gives three signs to check first, and the related answer on checking what AI says about your business shows how to see for yourself, in about twenty minutes, what assistants say about you today. Ascent Vision does not publish prices: every engagement is scoped on a call, because the cost depends on the business, the market and what already exists.
