In October 2026 we read the public pages of 26 small service-business websites in Tallahassee and the Big Bend, hand-picked from ordinary web searches, as part of a study of 96 Florida sites. 19 of 26 (73%) did not say all three of what the business does, where it works and who it is for in the opening lines of the home page: 16 of 26 (62%) left out who it is for, and 8 of 26 (31%) did not name a town or area. Across all 96 Florida sites, the first figure was 64 of 96 (67%).
13 of 26 (50%) gave search engines and AI assistants no machine-readable summary of the business, its name, place and contact details. 9 of 26 (35%) had no tap-to-call phone number on any page read, 7 of 26 (27%) had no way to get in touch on the home page itself, and 10 of 26 (38%) had no summary line written for search results.
