How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?

You cannot make ChatGPT recommend you, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to sell you a place inside its written answer. What you control is what it can find: a website that says plainly what you do, where and for whom; the exact services customers ask for, named in their words; honest reviews and mentions on other sites; and facts about your business that are current. Then ask ChatGPT yourself each month and note what it says.

Why the recommendation is worth working for

When a customer asks ChatGPT who to hire, the answer often names only a few businesses; the related answer on how customers find businesses through AI assistants describes what they see. Many customers take those names seriously. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 U.S. adults, 40% said they trust AI platforms to provide business recommendations, against 32% who did not, and 42% said they trust them as much as traditional reviews for local recommendations.

What you control

An assistant can only work from what has been written about a business, so the owner's part is making sure the right things are written. The related answer on why ChatGPT recommends a competitor sets out the differences an owner can usually see: a plain description of what you do, where and for whom; the exact services named in customers' words; recent, honest reviews; and being written about elsewhere. Two things that answer does not cover:

  • Keep the facts current. When your hours, number, area or services change, update your own site first, so an old detail is not repeated to a customer as if it were true today.
  • Answer the questions customers ask you, in full, on your own site. An assistant that is asked "how long does a roof repair take?" can only point to a page that actually says so, in plain words, from jobs you have done.

Check what it says, and correct what is wrong

Once a month, ask ChatGPT the questions your customers ask, in a fresh conversation, and write down whether you are named and whether the details are right. The related answer on checking what AI says about your business has the questions and what to note. If a competitor is named and you are not, the related answer on why ChatGPT recommends a competitor covers the differences an owner can usually see.

If an answer shows links, open them. BrightLocal's report advises checking any sources AI tools reference, and its advice for errors is short: "If something is wrong, ask for a correction". As general advice, start with the sites you can edit yourself.

What no one can sell you, and how long it takes

Be wary of anyone who offers to sell you a place inside ChatGPT's written answer; the related answer on whether you can pay to show up in AI answers covers what can and cannot be bought. The work is also slow, and the related answer on how long it takes to show up in AI answers explains why months, not weeks, is the usual pattern. No one can promise that ChatGPT, or any assistant, will recommend a particular business, and Ascent Vision makes no such promise either.
