Should a small service business have a blog?
Only if each post answers a question your customers actually ask. A blog of company news and generic tips rarely brings in customers. Clear, useful answers to the questions people ask before they hire you can help them find you and choose you, whatever the section of the site is called.
When it helps
- Each piece answers a real question you hear from customers, in their words.
- It is specific to your service and your customers, not general advice anyone could write.
- It is accurate, current and honest.
- It makes it easy to get in touch.
When it is wasted effort
- Posts about company news, holidays or awards nobody searches for.
- Generic articles rewritten from other websites.
- Posting on a schedule for its own sake, with nothing new to say.
- Posts that make claims you cannot back up.
Where to start
Start with the questions customers ask you before they buy. A site that answers them clearly and honestly brings in people who already know you fit, and that is worth more than a year of news posts.

Websites, upgraded or built
Most businesses do not need a new website. They need the one they have to load fast, say clearly what they do and ask the visitor to take one step.
