How long does SEO take to work?

SEO usually takes months, not weeks, to show up in inquiries, and nobody can give an exact date. The timeline depends on how competitive the market is, how strong the site is when the work starts and how much the business already has to show. Progress should still be visible early, in where the site appears and what it is found for, before it shows up as revenue.

What decides the timeline

  • Competition: a niche service in a small town moves faster than a crowded service in a big city.
  • The starting point: a site with a clear structure and some history moves faster than a brand-new one.
  • What the business can show: real work, real reviews and a consistent presence across the web all help.
  • How much changes: a handful of fixes moves less than a site rebuilt from the ground up.

What you should see along the way

In the first weeks: a clear plan of what will change and what will be measured. In the first months: the site appearing for more of the searches that matter, even before it reaches the top results. Over time: inquiries that arrive from search, tagged as such, so their value can be counted.

Google's own advice on hiring an SEO suggests asking what results to expect and in what timeframe, and how success will be measured. An agency should be able to answer both before you sign.

Why anyone who promises a date is guessing

Search engines decide rankings, and they change how they rank. Competitors are working too. That is why Ascent Vision agrees what to measure at the start, reports it monthly and judges the work on inquiries, not on a promised date.
