How do I get my business mentioned in Google AI Overviews?
By being a plain, complete answer to the questions your customers ask, on a page that can already show up in ordinary Google results. Google says "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode", so the route runs through its regular search advice. Search three customer questions today to see whether an Overview appears and who it names, and be wary of anyone who promises you a mention.
What Google says it takes
Google's page for site owners on its AI features says the usual search advice still applies, with no other special optimizations needed. To be shown as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode, it says, a page has to be eligible to appear in regular Google results with a snippet. It names creating helpful, reliable, people-first content among the key practices, and says owners do not need new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup to appear.
So the first step is ordinary: if you do not show up in Google at all, start with the related answer on why a business is not showing up on Google. What the two features are is covered in the related answer on Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Be the plain answer to what customers ask
Usually, an Overview appears on a question rather than on a business name. For a service business, those are usually the questions customers ask before they call: how long a job takes, whether to repair or replace, what a permit involves. A page that answers them plainly and completely, from jobs you have actually done, gives an Overview something to point to.
What you can check today
- Search three questions your customers ask you, word for word, on Google.
- Note whether an AI Overview appears. Google says Overviews show only when its systems judge them additive to classic search, and they "often don't trigger", so none at all is a normal result.
- If one appears, note which sites and businesses it links to or names, and whether yours is among them.
- Ask the same question in AI Mode. Google says the two may use different models and techniques, so their answers and links will vary.
- Repeat the same three questions each month; the related answer on checking what AI says about your business has a simple way to log them.
If customers meet you in person
Among the search basics Google says remain worthwhile for its AI features is checking that your Business Profile information is up to date. For a business customers visit, or one that travels to them, the profile is often part of what a local search shows; the related answer on what a Google Business Profile is covers who can have one and what the owner controls.
What no one can promise
Google says a page that meets all its requirements and follows its policies may still not be shown, so no one can promise you a mention. Its page on hiring an SEO suggests asking whether an agency's advice on AI features is aligned with Google's own guidance. Be wary of anyone selling a special file or markup for AI Overviews; Google says none is needed.
