Why is your business pin in the wrong place on Google Maps, and how do you fix it?
Google says it decides how to show a business's address from the owner's information and other sources, and lets an owner pin the location directly when the address has no street number or cannot be found. To move the pin, open your Business Profile, select Edit profile, then Location, Edit next to Business location, then Adjust; move the map and save. Google reviews the change, which usually takes about 10 minutes and can take up to 30 days.
Why the pin can be off
- An address Google cannot place: Google says that if the address has no street number, or the system cannot find a correct one, you can pin the location on the map.
- An official address that is not accurate on the ground: Google says that in such places you can add nearby cross-streets or landmarks.
- Updates from others: Google says it gathers info from sources such as user reports and licensed content, and may update a profile when they report it is wrong or outdated; the related answer on what to do when Google changes your hours covers how those updates show and how to reject one.
- A move the profile does not show yet: the related answer on changing your business name or address covers updating it, and Google says a business that moves after it is verified must verify again.
How to move the pin yourself
- Sign in to the Google Account linked to the profile and go to your Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then Location.
- Next to Business location, select Edit, then Adjust.
- Move the map so the pin points to your business, then select Done and Save.
What happens after the edit
Google says edits to a verified profile are reviewed against its guidelines, usually within 10 minutes but sometimes up to 30 days. The edit then shows as Accepted, Pending or Not approved; Google says it might not approve a change it cannot confirm, and that you might be able to appeal a rejected edit.
Google's address page adds that editing the pin can tie the profile to a more accurate Street View image, and that a business inside another, such as a store in a shopping mall, can ask to have that shown on its profile.
If you are not the owner, or the route is the problem
- Where the feature is available, anyone signed in to Google Maps can suggest an edit to a place's address or location on the map. Google says it reviews all such edits, that changes may take time to appear, and that edits trying to significantly change a business may be rejected.

- If the pin is right but drivers are sent the wrong way, Google's Maps help says to report wrong directions, which works only on a computer and in some countries or regions.
- Google says a service-area business that hides its address shows only its service area. If the business does not appear at all, the related answer on why a business is not showing on Google Maps covers that.
