Is Meta Verified worth it for a business?
Meta Verified for businesses is a paid subscription for a Facebook business Page, an Instagram professional business profile or a WhatsApp business profile. Meta says it comes with benefits like the verified badge, enhanced support and impersonation protection. It can be worth it when people are copying your business, or when a locked account would cost you customers and you need help fast. On its own it is unlikely to bring new customers, so judge it by those risks rather than by reach.
What Meta says you get
- A verified badge, which Meta says means the profile was verified based on your activity across Meta products, or on information and documents you provide.
- Impersonation protection: Meta says it monitors other accounts, and removes one it decides is impersonating you.
- Enhanced support: chat or email with a support agent for account issues, with prioritized support and phone call requests on higher plans.
- Search optimization, which Meta describes as appearing higher in its search results when people search for your name or username.
Plans, eligibility and renewal
Meta's benefits article describes four subscription plans (Standard, Plus, Premium and Max), and says plans, benefits and availability may vary by region, by app and by account. Meta's subscription page lists what each plan costs, and also says Meta Verified features are now available in Meta One, a new subscription that builds on Meta Verified.
You apply and Meta reviews the application, which Meta says can take up to 3 business days. Meta says Advanced Protection must be turned on for the business portfolio that holds the account, and cannot be turned off while the subscription is active. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled, and Meta says the badge and other benefits end after the billing cycle in which you cancel.
Who it tends to suit, and what it does not do
As general advice, it tends to suit a business that has had fake accounts message its customers, or one that takes a good share of its inquiries through Instagram or Facebook messages, where a hacked or locked account could cost real jobs. Meta's subscription page also notes that some businesses that advertise with Meta already have access to the support benefit, so check that before paying for it.
Meta describes the subscription as tools to help you build more confidence with new audiences and protect your brand, and its higher plans add features such as a featured profile and links in Reels. Also as general advice: higher placement when someone searches your name mainly helps people who already know you, and none of the benefits answers your messages or shows where your customers come from.
How to judge it after a few months
- Were fake accounts reported and removed faster than before?
- Did account problems get solved sooner when you needed help?
- Follow the inquiries you record as social through to won, lost or still open: did more of them turn into jobs?
- If the answer to all three is no, the subscription is probably not earning its place.
