Can customers book an appointment with you straight from Google?

Often, yes. Google's Business Profile help describes two ways: add your own booking link, which sends customers to a page where they can book, or take bookings through a provider that works with Reserve with Google. Google says a business must be verified before it can add a link, not every business is eligible, and a provider might charge you. Whichever you use, record each booking as a lead with its source.

The two ways Google describes

A booking link: Google's page on local business links says a profile can carry links that help customers book an appointment or make a reservation, added from the Booking option on the profile.

A booking provider: Google's page on bookings through a provider says customers then get reminders to come to their appointments and can easily use Google products such as Calendar. Owners can find providers in their country through Reserve with Google. It also warns: "your provider might charge you".

Which businesses it suits

Reserve with Google presents itself as a way to save a spot at restaurants, classes, activities and more, with sections for dining, activities, beauty and fitness. Google's business links policy says not all businesses are eligible for business links, giving the example of hair salons, which might take appointments but are not eligible for online ordering links, and says some countries and regions aren't eligible for certain links.

As general advice, booking straight from Google suits fixed-length visits better than jobs that need a quote first; the related answer on whether to use an online booking tool covers that choice and what to check before switching it on.

What Google asks of a booking link

Google's business links policy sets out what a link you add must do:

  • The business must be verified before it can add a link.
  • The link must lead to a page dedicated to your business and, for a business with several locations, to that location.
  • It must let the customer complete the booking. Google says these links cannot be social media sites, messaging links, app store links or link shorteners.
  • Google regularly checks business links and may remove any that do not follow its policies.

A booking button you did not add

Google says links to certain services can appear on a profile automatically, provided by third-party partners or through automated data from Google. An owner can remove a provider from the Booking section, and Google says providers need to remove their links within 5 days of a removal request. As general advice, remove any booking button you did not set up that does not lead to a calendar you use.

Count each booking as a lead

Whatever route a booking takes, record it as a lead with its source and follow it to won, lost or still open; the related answer on counting leads from your Google Business Profile covers how to tell a profile booking from a visit that came another way.
